Rivers:

 

Coyote Creek

- A small tributary to the Mora River near Guadalupita
Fish species- Rainbow and Brown Trout
Fishing conditions:  Good
Flow:  1.0 CFS - water is quite low
Trout: Slow
Flies: Elk hair caddis, orange woolly buggers
Lures: Spinners, black and yellow Panther Martins
Bait:   Power Bait, slamon eggs

Pecos River

- A major River originating in the Pecos Wilderness flowing south into Texas
Fish species- Rainbow, Brown and Cutthroat Trout at and above Villanueva State Park

Flow: 54 CFS near Pecos and 97 CFS below Sumner Dam
Clarity:  Clearing
Shore fishing conditions: Good - hatches or caddis, yellow sallies & some late golden stones are ongoing
 
Trout: Good
Flies:  Miracle nymphs, RS2s, Hare's Ears, wonder baetis, batwing emergers, headlight sallies, never-sink caddis and parachute pheasant tails
Lures: Pistol Pete's
Bait: Worms


Lakes:


Conchas Lake

A 10,492 acre lake on the Canadian River 32 miles Northwest of Tucumcari
Fish species- Large and Small Mouth Bass, Bluegill, Crappie, Walleye and Catfish

Lake Level: - 10,592 surface acres down to 3,667surface acres- 15% of capacity, 20% of average and 188% of last year.
Boating conditions: Good - North side ramps #3 and 5 and South side #3 are open. All others closed.
Clarity:  Fairly clear - temperature about 76 degrees
Shore fishing conditions: Good
Walleye: Slow - now in deep water
Lures:   jigs
Bait:  Minnows
Bass: Good for white bass; NR for largemouth or smallmouth
Lures: Jigs or trolling crank baits or spinners for white bass; Top water lures for largemouth; Crank baits for smallmouth bass
Bait: Worms
Catfish: Good at night
Bait: Chicken liver
Bluegill / Crappie: NR
Lures: Jigs
Bait: Minnows

Monastery Lake

- A 6 acre lake 2 miles North of Pecos
Fish species- Rainbow Trout

Fishing conditions: Fair- Remember the river adjacent to Monastery Lake, all the way upto and behind the fish hatchery is private.  Please respect all posted private waters.

Morphy Lake

- A 50 acre lake 3 miles Northeast of LeDoux, NM.  Closed Oct 31st Through April 1st

Santa Rosa Lake

A 3810 acre lake on the Pecos River 10 miles North of Santa Rosa
Fish species- Catfish, Bass, crappie and walleye

Lake Level: 3,554 surface acres down to 2,427 surface acres- 11% of capacity, 76% of average and 182% of last year.
Boating conditions: Excellent
Clarity: Murky
Shore fishing conditions: Good -

Bass: NR
Lures: crank baits, white curly tails

Storrie Lake

A 1200 acre lake 3 miles north of Las Vegas
Fish species- Rainbow Trout, Bass and Catfish
Boating conditions: Limited
Fishing conditions: Good
Trout: Slow

Bait: Fireballs, Power Bait
Bass: NR
Lures: Spinners
Bait: powerbait
Catfish: NR
Bait:  chicken liver, worms

Sumner Lake

Winter trout waters. A 2810 acre lake 19 miles Northwest of Fort Sumner
Fish species- Large Mouth, Small Mouth, White Bass, Walleye, Bluegill and Catfish

Lake Level: 2,810 surface acres down to 1,436 surface acres- 15% of capacity, 55% of average and 142% of last year.
Boating conditions: Good
Clarity: Murky
Fishing conditions: Good
Walleye: Slow with light pressure
Lures:  bottom bouncers
Bait:   Night crawlers, minnows
Bass:  Slow with light pressure
Lures: Top water lures
Bait: Minnows
Catfish: Slow to fair at night- few being caught from bank - last week 7-pound Flathead caught from west bank
Bait:  chicken liver, worms
Blue gill/ crappie: Slow with light pressure
Lures: Small jigs
Bait: minnows

Ute Lake

A 8200 acre lake West of Logan.
Fish species- Large Mouth, Small Mouth, White Bass, Walleye, Crappie and Channel Catfish

Lake Level: 8,200 surface acres down to 6,517 surface acres
Boating conditions: Excellent
Clarity: Clear
Fishing conditions: Good
Walleye:  NR
Lures:  Senkos
Bait: Minnows, worms
Bass:   Fair for white bass at 30 feet, best in early mornings; Smallmouth & largemouth bass are slow
Lures:   Jigging spoon slabs for white bass; top water lures for small and largemouth
Bait:  minnows
Catfish: Good at 4-12 ft.
Bait: Minnows, stink bait
Crappie: NR
Lures: small jigs
