Rio Ruidoso: Stocked with 450 Rainbow Trout last week!

A small stream that flows trough Ruidoso. Fish species- Brown and Rainbow Trout.

Flow: 1.1 CFS
Clarity: Clear
Fishing conditions: Good, stream is at a trickle.

Trout:  Water levels down to a trickle fishing is good in the upper canyon and in deeper pools.

Flies:  Small bead head pheasant tail nymphs
Lures:  Panther martins
Bait:  Worms and salmon eggs

Grindstone Reservoir: 

A 30 acre lake near Ruidoso. Fish species- Rainbow and Brown Trout.

Fishing conditions: Good 

Trout:

Flies:  Bead headed nymph's and whooly buggers

Lures:  Castmasters, pistol Pete's, panther martins

Bait:  Power bait, floating cheese and salmon eggs

Bonito Lake: Closed due to fire restrictions, might re-open this week?

A 60 acre lake on Bonito Creek 12 miles Northwest of Ruidoso. Fish species- Rainbow , Brown and Brook Trout.

Bottomless Lakes:  Winter trout waters-No More stocking until next fall.

6 small lakes located 10 miles east of Roswell. Fish species- (winter) Rainbow Trout.

Lake Van: Winter trout waters

A 12 acre lake 1 - 1/2 mile east of Dexter. Fish species- Large Mouth Bass, Bluegill, Channel Catfish and Rainbow Trout.

 

Fishing conditions: Fair -Windy - Mornings or evenings best times. Ski boats and jet ski's are not allowed on the lake!

Trout: Slow

Flies: 
Lures:  Artificial worms
Bait:  Nightcrawlers, garlic cheese

Catfish:  Good- Average is 18 to 20 inches but a 37 inch was landedlast week.

Bait:  Grasshoppers, stink bait, power bait, liver

Bass:  Fair on the NE side of the lake in the early mornings

Brantley Reservoir:

A 2189 acre lake on the Pecos River 15 miles North of Carlsbad. Fish species- Crappie, Large Mouth and white Bass, Walleye and Catfish.

Lake Level: 2189 surface acres down to 678 surface acres - 2% of capacity, 62% of average and 51% of last year.

Fishing conditions: Slow - No pressure.  DDT Pesticides are present in the lake and the fish! Please, don’t keep or eat them!

Boating conditions- Fair- East side ramp open, West side ramp open

Six Mile Dam Lake:

A 125 acre lake on the Pecos River 6 miles Southeast of Carlsbad. Fiish species- Large Mouth Bass, Bluegill and Catfish.

Fishing conditions: Very slow

Bass:  Slow

Flies:  Artificial worms
Bait:  Nightcrawlers

Black River: Winter trout waters!

A Small Tributary to the Pecos River near Malaga. Fish species- Large Mouth Bass, Bluegill, Channel Catfish and (winter) Rainbow Trout.

Flow:  3.8CFS
Clarity:  Clear
Shore fishing conditions: Very slow

Catfish:  Slow
Bait:  Cut bait, shrimp, nightcrawlers, artificial worms

Bass:  Slow
Lures:  6" rubber worms, chartreuse
