Quemado Lake:

A 130 acre lake 20 mile south of Quemado. Fish species- Rainbow Trout and Tiger Muskie (catch and release only)

Boating conditions: Fair 

Fishing conditions: Good 

Clarity: Stained

Trout:  Good, 17 -18 inch average

Lures:  Spinners - Gold and silver spoon rooster tails

Bait: Green yellow orange and rainbow sparkle power bait and worms

Tiger musky (catch and release only): Slow

Flies:  Streamers and minnow imitators
Lures:  Dare devils, super dupers
Bait:  Worms

 

Glenwood Pond:  

A 1 acre pond at Glenwood Trout Hatchery. Fish species Rainbow Trout.

Fishing conditions:  Good 

Trout: 
Flies:  Woolly buggers and peacock nymphs
Lures:  Black and gold Panther Martin with red or orange rooster tail
Bait:  Worms, power bait, garlic cheese and salmon eggs

Snow Lake:  

A 100 acre lake on the North side of the Gila Wilderness, 40 miles South of Reserve, NM. Fish species- Rainbows and Cutthroats.

Fishing conditions: Good

Trout: 

Flies: Bead headed nymphs, Damsel Flies

Lures: Spinners and Pistol Pete's

Bait: Worms and power bait (green)

Bill Evans Lake: winter trout water

A 62 acre lake 7 miles South of Cliff. Fish species- Large Mouth Bass, Crappie, Catfish, Bluegill, and (winter) Rainbow Trout.

Fishing conditions: Good

Trout:  Fair

Flies:  Woolly buggers
Lures:  Spinners
Bait:  Worms, power bait and salmon eggs

Bass:  Good

Lures:  Spinners
Bait:  Worms

Gila River: 

West Fork:

A medium sized stream that joins the Gila River at the Gila Cliff Dwellings. Fish species- Rainbow, Brown, Cutthroat Trout.

Flow: 38 CFS
Clarity: Clear
Shore fishing conditions: Good - water is dropping and flows are getting very good for fishing. Fly fishing is reported as excellent. 

Trout:  Good, Gila Cutthroats being caught.
Flies:  Small bead headed nymphs
Lures:  Spinners
Bait:  Worms, power bait and salmon eggs

Middle Fork:

A medium sized stream flowing from the Gila River at the Gila Hot Springs. Fish species- Rainbow, Brown, Cutthroat Trout.

Clarity:  Clear
Shore fishing conditions: Fair

Lures:  Spinners
Bait:  Worms, power bait and salmon eggs

East Fork:

A small sized stream near Gila Hot Springs. Fish species- Rainbow, Brown, Cutthroat Trout and Small Mouth Bass.

Clarity: Clear

Shore fishing conditions: Good

Lures:  Spinners
Bait:  Worms, power bait and salmon eggs

Lake Roberts: 

A 71 acre lake on the Sapillo Creek 12 miles Northeast of Silver City. Fish species- Rainbow Trout and Catfish.

Float fishing conditions: Slow to fair

Shore fishing conditions: Slow to fair 

Trout:  Slow to fair

Flies:  Woolly buggers and winged dry flies

Lures:  Spinners and rooster tails
Bait:  Worms, power bait and salmon eggs

Bass:  Slow
Lures:  Spinners
Bait:  Worms

Elephant Butte Lake:

A 12,859 acre lake 2 mile North of Truth Or Consequenses on the Rio Grande. Fish species- Large Mouth, Samll Mouth, White and Stripped Bass, Crappie, Walleye, Blue, Channel and Flathead Catfish.

Lake Level: 12,859 surface acres down to 8,711 surface acres - 28% of capacity, 47% of average and 102% of last year.

Boating conditions: Good, Dam site ramp closed, alll other ramps open!

Clarity:  Stained

Float fishing conditions: Good to EXCELLENT

Shore fishing conditions: Good

Striped Bass:  Good to excellent trolling or casting.

Flies:  Streamers

Lures; White slabs in about 20 feet of water! 

Bait:  Live shad & minnows

Bass:  Good - Whites and large mouths in 10 to 15 feet of water, Fair for Black bass
Flies:  Streamers
Lures:  Crank baits and small plastic grubs

Bait: Minnows, worms
Walleye:  Good, casting or trolling in 10 feet of water

Lures: White crank baits and small plastic grubs

Bait:  Worms and minnows
Catfish:  Excellent
Bait: Trot lines and cut shad, north end of the lake

Crappie: Fair

Bait: grubs and shinners in the brush.

Caballo Lake: 

A 3328 acre lake 15 miles down stream of Elephant Butte Lake on the Rio Grande. Fish species- Large Mouth, Small Mouth and White Bass, Crappie, Walleye and Catfish.

Lake Level: 3,328 surface acres down to 1,409 surface acres, 14% of capacity, 40% of average and 61% of last year.

Boating conditions: Fair, East side ramp open, West side ramp open

Clarity: Murky

Float fishing conditions: Good

Shore fishing conditions: Fair

Bass:  Fair overall, Whites good to excellent

Lures: Spinners with worms, white bombers and white curly tail jigs

Bait:  Worms. minnows and grubs

Walleye:  Good

Lures: White curly tail jigs, white bombers and spinners with worms
Bait: Worms, minnows

Catfish:  Good to excellent, 9 pound fish landed.

Bait: Large shinners, shrimp and worms

Crappie: Fair, with a few being caught here and there

Bait; Crappie jigs and doll flies
