Rivers: 

 

 

Arkansas River

A tributary of the Mississippi River Approximately 1469 miles long, Headwaters originate in Lake County near Leadville, The river runs through Colorado, Kansas Oklahoma and Arkansas. The upper river is located in (Region 3). The middle and lower sections are located in (Region 6).
Fish species: Wild Rainbow and Brown Trout

Middle section - Salida to Canon City

Flow: Parkdale: 759 CFS
Clarity:
Green cast
Fishing conditions: Good

Trout: Good
Flies: Blue wing olive and caddis - emergers and dries
Lures: Orange and black/gold Panther Martin's
Bait:
Power bait, salmon eggs and night crawlers

Lower Section - Below Pueblo Lake to Pueblo

Flow: Moffat St. at Pueblo: 571 CFS
Clarity:
Green cast to murky
Shore fishing conditions: Fair with a moderate release from Spillway

Trout: Fair - good depending on angler experience
Flies: Caddis pupa and various nymph patterns
Lures: Orange and black/gold Panther Martin's
Bait:
Power bait, Salmon eggs and Night crawlers

 

Lakes:

 

John Martin Reservoir

A 19,471 acre lake, located on the Arkansas River, 2 miles south of Hasty.

Clarity:
Lake Level: Low, 78 degrees
Boating conditions: Open to boating, mandatory inspections 6am to 10pm daily.
Fishing conditions: Fair - low water levels

Bass: Wipers: Fair   White Bass: - Fair
Lures: Rattletraps, Cranks, Cleo spoons, Daredevils, senkos, tubes, twister tails, spinner baits
Bait: Minnows and night crawlers
Walleye: Fair to Good in main lake and at spillway - Saugeye: Fair to Good in main lake and at spillway.
Lures: Jigs tipped with plastics, Mister Twisters (chartruese)
Bait: Night crawlers, shrimp, Gulp minnows
Bluegill / Crappie: Fair to Good
Lures: Mr. Twister grubs

Lake Pueblo

A 4646 acre lake, located 5 miles west of Pueblo.

Clarity: 
Lake Level: 23 feet below full, approx. 75 degrees
Boating conditions: Boat ramps open 5 am to 6 pm
Fishing conditions: Good, best luck trolling

Bass: Wipers: Slow -  Try west end of lake, near north marina or south marina camp ground. Bass: Largemouth & Smallmouth - Good for smallies - try 20 feet off the south shore
Lures: Tube jigs,Crank baits, Plastics, Buzz Baits and top water lures, Senkos or Rapala X Rap (perch color).
Bait: Minnows, crawdads
Walleye: Fair - try trolling near dam or off the rock points.
Lures: Trolling - Rattle traps, bombers and bottom bouncers. Also try Lindy rigs or jigging silver spoons, jigs with minnows or worms.
Bait: Minnows, night crawlers, leeches,worm harnesses

Lathrop State Park

Horseshoe Lake

One of two lakes that make up the Lathrop Colorado State park three miles west of Walsenburg on U.S. Highway 160. Open for ice fishing.

Clarity:
Lake Level: Full, 75 degrees
Boating conditions: Open for boating, inspections required
Fishing conditions: Good along the dam or north side of lake

Trout (rainbow): Good - try the dam, or off the bottom. Fish are running small in size.
Flies: Streamers and wooly buggers

Panther Martin's, Mepps, Rapalas
Bait: Power bait, fireballs and night crawlers
Bass:
Bass - Fair, Wipers - no report

Bass: Slow   Wipers: -  no report
Lures: Crankbaits, plastics, Jerkbaits

A 700 acre lake, located 3 mile west of Interstate 25. Ice fishing allowed if conditions permit.

Dropping, approx. 72 degrees
Boating conditions: The boat ramp is open, inspections mandatory
Fishing conditions: Good, boaters watch for floating debris and unmarked hazards

Trout: Good, try the south shore a.m. and p.m.
Flies: Streamers and wooly boogers

Bass: Good for Wiper and Largemouth
